Before we dive into the latest summer nail obsession, if you missed Part 1 of this series (here it is), we covered Watercolors and Polka Dots—the nails equivalent of a breezy sundress and a vacation cocktail. This time we’re taking a stroll down the shoreline because apparently 2026 has collectively decided that if we’re not living on the Amalfi Coast, we can at least pretend our fingernails do.
If you’ve been following along, you already know I dedicated an entire blog post Giving Me Life – Coastal Chic to my current shell obsession. Oyster shells, mother of pearl, abalone, clam shells—I love them all. My house is one giant mermaid mood board and now the nail world has officially joined the party. Shell-inspired nails are everywhere this summer, and they’ve brought a few aquatic friends along for the ride.
Remember when beach-themed nails meant a random palm tree decal and some questionable glitter? We’ve come a long way, friends. Today’s shell-inspired manicures are sophisticated, artistic, and just a little bit extra.
Oyster
Oyster shells have been having a moment in home decor for years. They’re on coffee tables, serving as jewelry dishes, hanging on gallery walls, and somehow making everything look more expensive.
Now they’re showing up on our nails.
Oyster-inspired manicures feature creamy whites, soft grays, silvers, and subtle texture that mimic the inside of an oyster shell. Some nail artists are even creating raised pearl-like details that make your fingertips look like tiny pieces of coastal art.
The best part? Oyster nails work with everything. They’re basically the neutral linen sofa of the nail world. Sophisticated, timeless, and impossible to hate.

Pearlescent
If oyster nails are the linen sofa, pearlescent nails are the crystal chandelier hanging above it.
These nails catch the light from every angle and have that dreamy, iridescent glow that makes you stare at your own hands while pretending to listen during Zoom meetings.
Pearl finishes are showing up in whites, blush pinks, champagnes, and soft lavenders. They’re elegant enough for weddings, brunches, vacations, and that trip to Home Goods where you somehow spend $200.
Pearlescent nails feel luxurious without screaming for attention. They’re the quiet luxury trend’s prettier cousin who actually knows how to have fun.

Abalone
Now we’re getting into my favorite category.
Abalone shells are nature’s version of showing off. Blues, greens, purples, teals, and flashes of silver all swirled together in one spectacular package.
Abalone-inspired nails capture that magical color-shifting effect and honestly look like little galaxies on your fingertips.
If you’ve ever stood in front of an abalone shell turning it back and forth in the sunlight like a crow attracted to shiny objects, these nails are for you.
The color combinations are stunning and pair beautifully with another major summer trend: cobalt blue. (See? Everything eventually comes back to blue.)

Unique Shells
This category is for the creative souls who looked at regular shell nails and thought, “Cute, but can we make it weirder?”
The answer is yes.
Conch shell details, scallop patterns, starfish accents, coral textures, 3D embellishments, and hand-painted shell motifs are all making appearances this summer.
Some designs look like treasures collected during a childhood beach vacation. Others resemble artifacts recovered from a fashionable mermaid’s estate sale.
Either way, they’re conversation starters. And honestly, isn’t that what great nails are supposed to be?

Fish
Now let’s discuss the trend absolutely nobody had on their bingo card.
Fish. Specifically sardines.
If you’ve been paying attention to fashion lately, you’ve probably noticed sardines swimming onto clothing, handbags, kitchen accessories, artwork, and home decor. Somewhere along the way, the humble little fish became chic.
Naturally, nail artists said, “Hold my nail polish.”
Tiny hand-painted sardines are appearing on everything from minimalist manicures to full Mediterranean-inspired nail art. Some designs feature schools of fish, others showcase colorful tins of sardines, and a few are so detailed they belong in an aquarium.
It’s quirky. It’s unexpected. It’s slightly ridiculous. Which is exactly why I love it.
Summer trends should be fun. Not every manicure has to be serious, sophisticated, or match your throw pillows. Sometimes a tiny fish on your fingernail is enough to make you smile.
And frankly, after the last few years we’ve all had, I’ll take joy wherever I can find it—even if it comes in sardine form.

So between oysters, pearls, abalone shells, unique coastal designs, and the surprise arrival of fashionable fish, Summer 2026 is proving that the ocean is the ultimate nail artist.
As someone who recently confessed her shell obsession in my “Giving Me Life – Shells” post, I fully support this trend takeover. The beach aesthetic has moved beyond seashell souvenirs and into genuinely beautiful design territory.
Whether you prefer elegant pearlescent finishes, dramatic abalone-inspired colors, or tiny sardines living their best life on your fingertips, there’s a coastal nail trend for everyone this summer.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to coordinate my nails with my shell decor, my mother-of-pearl accessories, and probably an oyster-shaped trinket dish I absolutely do not need but will buy anyway.
See ya next time!
