It’s holiday date night season — when the air gets chilly, the city gets sparkly, and you suddenly remember you actually like leaving your house after dark. Lucky for us, Atlanta knows how to turn on the charm this time of year. Whether you want twinkly lights, cultured moments, or a night of competitive bowling that could make or break your relationship, I’ve got you covered.
Whatever you do, I recommend keeping it fun and light. Dinner and a movie is not the move anymore so get creative and find adventures or new ideas to experience together based on your interests or just doing something totally new.
I’ve compiled a list of date night ideas that I’ve either tried or things that intrigued me and I would love to experience.
Let’s break it down.
In the City
Atlanta Botanical Gardens

If you want to feel like you’re strolling through a real-life fairy tale, the Botanical Garden’s holiday lights are the move. Picture this: millions of twinkling bulbs, glowing sculptures, and a kind of magical haze that makes everyone look 10% more attractive.
It’s romantic, photogenic, and gives you just enough walking time to talk about anything but work. Grab hot cocoa, wander the lit-up paths, and pretend you live in a Hallmark movie but with better shoes.

Georgia Aquarium

Through January 2, 2026, the Georgia Aquarium transforms into a shimmering winter wonderland filled with twinkling lights, festive music, and ocean magic.
If you’ve never been to this aquarium you have been missing out. Even if you’re from outside the state of Georgia, I would urge you to make a trip to see this fantastic place. Besides being a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of aquatic life, it houses over 100,000 animals from 500 species and is the largest aquarium in the U.S.
This is truly an experience and believe it or not, a sexy date night. As you walk through the tunnel called the Ocean Voyager, it makes for a surprisingly intimate date even with people all around you. Check out the event calendar to see all of the other options for adults only.

Atlantic Station

For a livelier “we’re absolutely getting a late-night dessert” kind of date, Atlantic Station is buzzing this time of year. The ice rink is basically calling your name — whether you skate like a pro or cling to the rails like you’re auditioning for a soap opera.
Add the big tree, the light shows, and festive pop-ups, and you’ve got a night that feels festive without feeling fussy. Dinner + skating + wandering under fake snow = perfection.

Colony Square and Politan Row

Colony Square gives you holiday magic without the Midtown madness. Think twinkling trees, cozy corners, fire pits, and festive little moments tucked into every corner. It’s the perfect low-key date spot: start with dinner, wander out for the lights, and enjoy the kind of vibe that makes you want to slow down and savor the season.
This year they have “Winter Squares”, which are first-come, first-serve outdoor spaces with fire pits that you can rent. And as a bonus, there’s a Food Hall called Politan Row located inside Colony Square. So many options.

Skyline Park at Ponce City Market

I love this place just as a Food Hall and for shopping, but the roof is special. When you get off the elevator you are treated to the most spectacular view of downtown Atlanta and there are several vantage points to take pictures and see all of the views. With a holiday bar, restaurant and outdoor games, it’s a fun place for a casual date without any pressure.
There’s skating with a real DJ and igloos that you could rent out where waiters brought you fondue and hot chocolate. It looked like a lot of fun and I’m seriously thinking about renting one.

The Battery Atlanta

If you’ve been to an Atlanta Braves game then you know that the Battery is an entertainment center outside of the ballpark. Filled with restaurants, retail shops, bars and The Roxy music venue, it’s a destination spot all on its own.
The Battery brings the holiday energy without overdoing it. The whole place glows this time of year, and the holiday market is a great “let’s just stroll and see what we find” moment. Whether you’re catching a tree lighting or just soaking in the festive buzz, this one feels fun, easy, and flexible — the trifecta of great date nights.

City Winery
This is one of my favorite venues in Atlanta. Located on the same lot as Ponce City Market, City Winery is a combination of the culinary and music. With intimate concert sets paired with wine and food, it’s the perfect date night. It’s Atlanta’s first fully operational winery.
There’s a separate restaurant called the Barrel Room if you don’t want to see a show, but I would recommend watching a world class musician while enjoying a great meal. The food is wonderful, which is rare in these sorts of venues.
On a side note, they also have wine tastings and a make your own wine class where you can choose a wine and make your own labels. So much fun.

High Museum of Art
For the couple that likes their holidays served with a side of culture, the High Museum is a chic winter pick. Even if there’s no specific holiday exhibit, the combo of art + cozy Midtown lights afterward is a vibe. Wander the galleries, whisper about which art you’d “totally buy if you lived in a penthouse,” and then stroll to a nearby restaurant while the city glows around you.
If you and your date are into art, this museum has everything you need to make a great date night. The museum is home to over 17,000 works of American, European, African, Photograph, Contemporary and Folk Art. It’s also one of the nation’s leading art museums.
Besides touring the galleries, on the first, second and third Fridays of the month the museum stays open late for social events. The first Friday is High Frequency Friday where you take a guided tour in the galleries, dance and enjoy drinks. The second Friday of the month is called Oasis and it consists of yoga exercises, art making and reflecting with art. The third Friday of the month is Jazz Night and this is my personal favorite. You sip drinks and listen to some of the most accomplished local musicians. This event has seating on a first come first come basis so it’s best to get there by 6pm.

The Painted Pin
Sometimes you don’t need lights, trees, or faux snow — you just need to beat your partner in bowling while sipping a cocktail.
It’s part bowling alley, part recreation and arcade spot. Bowling is actually an afterthought to me as there’s so much to do. We usually end up bowling last if at all. If you’re a lover of games, this place is for you. It has ping pong, skee-ball, electronic pop-up basketball, bocce courts, etc.
The food is “upscale alley” and they have a very sophisticated drink program that consists of craft and local beers, wine and signature cocktails. You can also get small plates that you can share.

Prestige Helicopters
If you’ve never been on a helicopter, you’re in for a treat. This is one of the ultimate date nights if you and your partner are the adventurous type. You’ll be able to see all of Atlanta’s beautiful architecture and buildings, or you can head out to the Chattahoochee or Stone Mountain area among others. There are several tours available with different price points.
Take to the skies with that special someone and I can guarantee that you won’t regret it.

Just a Bit Outside
Alpine, Helen Georgia

If you’ve ever wanted to escape to a tiny Bavarian village without, you know, international travel — Helen is your girl. The entire town turns into a Christmas-themed snow globe: twinkling lights, gingerbread vibes, mountain air, and the occasional hot chocolate that tastes better simply because you’re in the mountains.
It’s cozy, quirky, and perfect for a festive day trip or overnight escape. Bonus points if you time it around sunset: pure magic.

Chateau Elan and Braselton GA

If you want to turn date night into a luxury date, head to Chateau Elan. The winery, the lights, the tree displays, the festive décor — it’s giving “romantic winter getaway” energy in all the best ways.
Sip wine, wander the grounds, splurge on dinner, maybe book the spa if you’re feeling fancy. It’s the ultimate holiday-level-up date night, and honestly? You deserve it.

Visit a Brewery
I’m so into craft and local beer and Atlanta has exploded with breweries in the last 10 years or so. Google breweries in Atlanta and you’d be surprised how many there are. I’ve listed just a few, but if you and your date like beer, this would be a fun date night.
Check out everyone’s calendars for special events like tastings and pairings. You’d be surprised how many fun activities you can do centered around beer.

Atlanta really shows off this time of year. Whether you stay in the city or wander a little farther out, there’s no shortage of ways to make the holidays feel extra magical — and extra date-worthy.
I hope I’ve provided you with enough options and maybe even sparked some ideas of your own. The thing is to get creative and even if it sounds odd or weird or silly, try it. If you like it, then I love it. I believe everyone should do what makes them happy and if your date enjoys it, then it’s a win win. I think most people would appreciate a date that’s out of the box. Just trust your gut and go for it.
Let me know in the comments what was the most unique date you’ve ever been on.
See ya next time.
