The Best Faux Plants – Part 2

Home Styling, Interior Design

A lot of times, real plants just become dead plants so decorators and interior designers alike are arguing for faux plants more and more. The technology has gotten so much better that sometimes you can’t really tell if it’s artificial or real. There are a few tips you can follow to get the most “realness” out of fake plants, but this is a great option if your thumb isn’t as green as others or if you just don’t have time to look after plants. If you’re looking for artificial trees please see my post here The Best Faux Plants – Part 1.

Potted Plants

Any time a faux plant is in a nice pot or planter, it tricks your eye into thinking it’s a real plant. Or at least that’s what I tell myself. So if it’s just in one of those small black planters, drop it in a larger pot and put some moss on top and voila!

This plant looks like a small rubber tree, but it’s actually called a peperomia plant. Anyway, it’s cute, so check into it.

This Target banana leaf plant from Project 62 is on several “best of” lists.

I just love eucalyptus. There’s something whimsical about the shape of the leaves and I’ve never seen it in a pot before.

It’s very easy for succulents to look real as they already have a rubbery texture to them. This aloe plant is stunning and would look good anywhere in your home.

Another succulent that I love is the cactus.

Snake plants are another sculptural plant that I love and the variegated leaves give a little extra oomph.

Unique Potted Plants

I wanted to find some unique potted plants that you wouldn’t necessarily think of and the ones below are certainly that.

This cedar bonsai tree would look great in a Japandi style home is my first thought. But I think you could make it work in a traditional setting also.

I’ve never seen this pencil succulent before but I’m here for it.

I’m not really a fern girl, but I love the wispy leaves of this asparagus fern.

I’ve found so many different types of succulents in doing my research for this blog post. This Echeveria Atlantis succulent is giving everything it’s supposed to give and the pot is “chef’s kiss”.

I had to include this polka dot begonia plant because I’ve never seen it before and it’s so cute.

Potted Plant Sets

If you want more bang for your buck, you can get a set of faux potted plants at a reasonable price.

This 2-piece set is a monstera plant and a pothos plant.

This 4-piece set is great to get a whole look at one time.

If you’re going for the boho look, this set of hanging plants would look great hanging from a bookcase or shelf.

Stems and Branches

I feel like you can get away with faux stems and branches being a little less realistic because they’re usually in a vase or container and it’s more for impact than to look realistic.I love putting long branches in a vase because it gives a statement and there are a million ways to pair a pot/vase and branch/stem.

This wisteria branch is so sculptural, that you just need one to fill a vase.

Being in the South, I had to include magnolia stems because they are literally on every street in my neighborhood. They are really striking and look wonderful in a vase.

Since olive trees are the most popular trees right now, it’s only right that I include olive branches. They look best when they’re full so go for multiple stems.

This isn’t the usual eucalyptus stem, but that’s what the description says. Anyway, I like it in an oversized vase like below. It really fills up the space in a corner.

Unique Stems and Branches

Sometimes you don’t want the same old, same old branches or stems with the standard green leaves. The ones below can give you a different look in your decor.

These staghorn branches are so striking and can fit in every design style. I think I’m going to go get some right now.

Yellow is trending right now, so these blooming branches can add a bit of color to a dining room table or even a console table.

Not just for autumn, use these nandina leaf branches any time.

Michaels is also a good place to find single stems that look real and they have really good sales on florals several times a year. Stay away from their attached stems though; they look really plastic.

So, this is my list but I could go on and on. Let me know if you have any other recommendations.
