Fall. My absolute favorite season of the year. Hands down. Where else do you get the crisp air, the smell of cinnamon everything, football weekends, fall festivals, and just the right excuse to drink hot cider before noon? It’s the season where the weather behaves for once—not too hot, not too cold—just that perfect sweater-without-a-coat kind of vibe. And the best part? Nature basically hands us free décor. Pinecones, branches, colorful leaves—you don’t even need a craft store receipt to make it happen. Your backyard is basically HomeGoods with a breeze.
Part 1 of this year’s Fall 2025 decorating trends are leaning in on cozy textures, deep color palettes, and outdoor vibes that make you want to cancel your plans and stay home. And we’re starting with three key areas that set the tone: entryways, foliage, and the great outdoors.
Entrances & Entryways
If your home had a “first impression outfit,” it would be your entryway. Fall is the perfect time to swap out that tired console table décor for something layered and textured. Think stacked books, ceramic pumpkins, and those ridiculously oversized candles that make your house smell like a woodland lodge.
A runner rug in warm tones instantly says, “Yes, this is a fall household, and yes, we have pumpkin bread in the oven.” Mudrooms also get their seasonal moment—add woven baskets for scarves, plaid throws, and boots that look intentionally placed (even if you just kicked them off in a hurry). Entryways are all about welcoming guests into the season without screaming “party store aisle.”

Fabulous Foliage
Nature is still serving. There’s something about bringing foliage inside that instantly shifts a space from “cute” to “seasonal sanctuary.” Whether it’s branches casually styled in a vase, leaves tucked into a tablescape, or a bundle of pinecones tossed in a bowl, foliage makes your home feel grounded, organic, and warm. It’s nature’s way of saying, “Hey, you don’t need to spend a fortune to make this place look amazing—I’ve got you covered.” It adds life, texture, and that subtle sense of coziness that screams fall without feeling staged.
Wine Tones are Still Trending
Wine tones are not going anywhere. Merlot, cabernet, and deep plum shades are still trending hard in both fashion and interiors, so why not bring them to your fall styling?
Add a pop of burgundy with branches of maple leaves in a tall vase, scatter jewel-toned leaves across a tablescape, or mix in faux arrangements with real ones (because, let’s be real, some of us kill plants faster than we can say “Trader Joe’s mums”). These wine-inspired colors bring instant warmth and richness, and they look stunning next to wood, brass, or even modern black accents.

Autumn Tones
Beyond the deep wine shades still dominating this year, autumnal tones are having their own moment. Think rich ambers, golden ochres, mossy greens, and those fiery rusts that look like they were pulled straight off the trees outside. These colors layer beautifully together, creating that warm, collected look that feels both timeless and totally on-trend. Sprinkle them into your décor through foliage, textiles, or even just a few accents, and suddenly your space feels like it belongs in one of those dreamy fall magazines—without the pumpkin-spice overload.

Outdoors
Fall isn’t just something you decorate inside for. The outdoors deserves its moment too—especially when the weather is basically begging you to light a firepit and roast marshmallows.
Backyards are all about layering textures and creating cozy zones. Think Adirondack chairs with plaid blankets, lanterns that actually get used, and yes, a firepit that becomes the neighborhood gathering spot. Front porches? They’re your house’s runway. Pile on the pumpkins, hang a wreath that looks hand-foraged (bonus points if you actually made it), and add oversized planters with kale, mums, or grasses.
Deck spaces get the same treatment—layered outdoor rugs, pillows that can handle a little weather, and twinkle lights to keep the vibe magical. Your goal: make it so cozy that you forget it gets dark at 6:30 now.

Wrapping it all up
Fall 2025 decorating is about layering, warmth, and using what’s around you. Entryways set the tone, wine-inspired foliage keeps things lush and dramatic, and outdoor spaces turn into cozy retreats that extend your home’s living space. Plus, let’s not forget—you can gather half your décor straight from your backyard. Free is the best trend of all.
This is just Part 1 of my Fall 2025 decorating series. Next up? Part 2 will be Living Spaces and Fireplaces that will have you rethinking that whole “save the good stuff for Thanksgiving” mindset.
See ya next time.
