I always make a list of Goals for the coming year and I did one this year, but I decided to do a Vision Board also. I love to make collages and I’ve done modge podge on various items with magazine tear outs, so I thought this would be a good project for me. The first thing I did, of course, was search for ideas on Pinterest. It seems I use Pinterest for everything nowadays. First up, here is a list of materials I used:
KingArt Stretched Canvas Pk of 2
And of course magazines. I have tons of old magazines that I use to make art and just because I’m a pack rat.
Step 1 – The Preparation
I grabbed my Goals for the year and came up with Categories for my Vision Board. My Categories were Business, Self-Care, Travel and Passions. Then I broke the individual Categories down:
Business – I thought about all of the things that I wanted to get better at like social media, photography, non-procrastination, etc. and what words or images would trigger me.
Self-Care – I’ve really been lax on my self-care so I am going to focus on skincare, fitness, hair, nails and anything that would make my life more stress-free.
Travel – This year I’m focusing on the South and taking short weekend trips to visit small towns and artisans throughout the Southeast. I’m calling it “The Southern Agenda”.
Passions – The reason I added Passions was because I found that I wasn’t doing the things that I loved to do any more. Things like being a Maker (Quilting, Sewing, Crocheting), Reading, Gardening/Landscaping, etc.
I also gravitated to the advice to pick a phrase that represented the Year. So I picked something that I saw on Pinterest and I knew I would put that in the middle of my Vision Board to remind me of what I wanted to accomplish and would motivate me.
Here are all of my supplies below except for the glue sticks. I thought I had some more, but I ran out and had to run out later to get some. I grabbed a variety of magazines to start out with; Interior Design, Business, Fashion, Food and Lifestyle.
Step 2 – Tear out Images and Words
While watching TV, I tore out pages that I thought had either words or pictures that I could use in the different categories. This is a very creative process that I really enjoyed.
I then cut out the words or phrases that I wanted to use and even cut out letters to make words.
Then I made sure I had a variety of fun colors and patterns.
Here’s a picture of the tear outs and words that I thought would work.
Step 3 – Separate Into Categories
Then I separated them into the different categories. This is where you can see if you have enough for each. If you don’t, go back to your magazines.
If there are things that you can’t find the right image of, you can always find an image on your computer and print it out on your color printer. You can even use Canva to make fun images that you can use. For instance, for the life of me, I could not find an image of money in my magazines so I just found one on Pinterest and printed it out. I always knew for my ”Phrase of the Year” I would have to make it myself in Microsoft Word or Canva and the same thing for the year “2024”.
Step 4 – The Background
I thought that it would make it easier if I started with a base of pictures and/or patterns to cover the white of the canvas. I started to glue down the background pictures with Elmer’s Glue, but found that it was making the sheets wrinkled because it was too wet. That’s when I thought about glue sticks, but I didn’t have any more. So, a trip to the store was necessary.
After I switched to the glue stick, it went much smoother.
Step 5 – Glue Down your Motivational Words
Now to me is the fun part. Take the words and phrases and fit them onto the Vision Board in the categories that they belong. I didn’t glue them right away. I put them all down first and then when I was satisfied, I glued them down.
Voila! The most epically awesome Vision Board that has everything I need to have a fantastic year!!!!!
Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever done a vision board and if you feel like it helped you reach your goals.
See ya next time.
