There are two types of people on St. Patrick’s Day. The first group throws on a wrinkled green T-shirt five minutes before leaving the house so they don’t get pinched. The second group? They commit. I’m somewhere in between celebrating from afar and throwing up a pint of stout at the local Irish Pub.

Now listen — green has always been my favorite color. Always. But the moment I discovered I am 7% Irish, I took that as official permission from the universe to fully lean into the holiday. Was it a small percentage? Sure. But it was enough for me to say, “Perfect. I’ll be celebrating accordingly.” And by celebrating, I mean one thing: All. Green. Everything.

Not just a random shamrock accessory and calling it a day. I’m talking lush, vibrant, unapologetic green in every direction you look.

Inspiration

If you’ve spent any time on Pinterest, you know it’s basically a treasure chest of visual inspiration. And when it comes to St. Patrick’s Day? The color green shows up in its most fabulous form.

Think:

  • glossy emerald tablescapes
  • deep forest green velvet sofas
  • leafy plants everywhere
  • bright kelly green outfits that practically glow

It’s bold. It’s fresh. It’s alive. And honestly, after a long winter of neutrals and gray skies, it feels like the design equivalent of opening the windows and letting spring rush in.

Green just has that effect. It’s energizing, hopeful, and a little bit magical — which feels perfectly on brand for a holiday historically associated with luck and legends.

Home (Because Your House Deserves to Celebrate Too)

If you’re like me — a home stylist, artist and interior designert who notices everything — the idea of celebrating a holiday without decorating at least a little bit feels… incomplete.

Luckily, green is one of the easiest colors to incorporate into a home because nature already did most of the work for us.

A few simple ways to bring that St. Patrick’s Day energy into your space:

  • Layer lush greenery. Plants, branches, or even faux stems instantly wake up a room.
  • Add emerald textiles. Throw pillows, velvet ottomans, or a cozy green blanket can change the entire mood of a space.
  • Play with glass and ceramics. Green vases, bottles, or vintage glassware look incredible when grouped together.
  • Set a festive table. Green napkins, plates, or even a leafy centerpiece make dinner feel like an event.

The best part? None of this screams “seasonal decor.” It just looks stylish — which means you can absolutely leave it out long after the holiday is over.

(Design trick: if a decoration looks good year-round, it’s not really seasonal. It’s just good taste.)

Now let’s talk about the real star of the day: the outfit.

St. Patrick’s Day fashion can sometimes veer into novelty territory — and while I appreciate enthusiasm, we can do better than glittery plastic hats.

Green is actually one of the most flattering and versatile colors in fashion when done right.

Some of my favorite ways to wear it:

  • A bold monochromatic look. Head-to-toe green is surprisingly chic.
  • A statement blazer. Instant polish, zero effort required.
  • Accessories that pop. A green handbag, heels, or chunky jewelry.
  • Soft sage or olive tones. For the people who want the vibe without the neon.

The key is leaning into the richness of the color. Emerald, moss, jade, forest — these tones feel sophisticated while still honoring the spirit of the day.

There’s something incredibly fun about using a holiday as an excuse to introduce a bold color into your world.

And remember — you do not have to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The holiday has become a joyful, global excuse to gather, decorate, and wear a color that just happens to be one of the most beautiful shades in the design world.

So whether you’re 100% Irish, 7% like me, or absolutely none at all…

You’re still invited to the green party. And the dress code is very simple: All. Green. Everything.

See ya next time.
