Another week down and my One Room Challenge is coming along. If you’re just tuning in, I’ve joined the One Room Challenge which is a design challenge where you pick one room in your house to renovate and/or makeover. I have eight weeks to finish a room in my house and every Wednesday I upload the link to this blog post on the One Room Challenge website. You’ll be able to see everybody’s progress as well as tons of inspiration for every room in your house and even some outdoor spaces. This is Week 4 and if you want to see Weeks 1-3, I have the links at the bottom of this post.

If you’ve been following me, you know that I picked my primary bedroom. So far I’m feeling a little uneasy about my progress so far as I’ve fallen behind according to the schedule I’ve set up for myself. I’m soldering on though and trying to leave myself enough time to finish this ambitious project.

Since I finished painting the walls, I put my vintage green velvet chair and ottoman against it to see how it looks and I love it. I still want to paint the windows and the French doors to the right, but I’ve already made peace with the fact that I will be painting till the end.

Another small detail that I wanted to do was paint the recessed  lighting covers. I need to do touch ups, but I like how it blends in with the ceiling now instead of having these white circles that stand out.

Now for the shameful part of my bedroom. Laundry on the loveseat that I was supposed to be stripping the fabric off of this week. Needless to say, that didn’t happen. During the last couple of weeks, my dog keeps looking at me as if to say, “Mommy, what is you doing?”. Haha

I moved this small table into the other corner by the French doors and loaded it up with some accessories that I might use in the room. My problem is that I’ve moved a lot of stuff out into the hallway and I ran out of room because I needed to leave a path for my dog to get out the back door. This is giving me deja vu to when I renovated my house and had stuff everywhere. Anywho, the Buddha statue below is one of my prized possessions that I bought from Tuesday Morning years ago. Don’t you just love Tuesday Morning? They’re closing down a lot of them in my neck of the woods and I’m so sad about that.  I could always find something special there.

Time to strip my nightstands. I got these from a vintage shop before I moved into my house and I love the mid-century design with the two levels. The gray color was okay, but I prefer wood. I got out my trusty Citristrip Gel. I can’t say enough about this gel. Just watch how easy the paint comes off.

I poured it on and then smoothed it out with a paint brush. My tip is to be generous because the more you use, the easier it comes up. Leave it on for at least fifteen minutes but I left it for thirty minutes.

Citristrip makes the paint or stain come off like butter whether you put plastic wrap on it or not. I put plastic wrap on the lower level to see if there was a difference but there really wasn’t.

Here’s a comparison of the first nightstand versus the second one.

The varnish that was under here is coming up nicely with my sander. I had to be extra careful because there’s veneer under the paint which was pretty much standard in mid-century modern furniture. I didn’t want to go too deep into the thin veneer. I ran out of sanding pads, so it’s off to Home Depot I go.

This week is going to be jam packed with items being delivered and lots of DIY projects. Stay tuned and let me know what you think so far.

See ya next time.

I’ve never tried stripping furniture myself, I’ve always outsourced it. I am going to have to try it now that I’ve seen how you do it, Leslie. Looking forward to catching up on Week 5!
