Oktoberfest – A Good Time Was Had by All!

Lifestyle

Ah, Oktoberfest in Helen, Ga. It was a heavily anticipated event by me and I couldn’t wait to find some time to go. I’ve been so busy lately so I literally waited until the last weekend and took the time to drive the two hours through the countryside to this Bavarian Village in the Appalachian Mountains of Georgia.

It was a beautiful fall day and the leaves were changing. The weather was 79 degrees and sunny. You can’t get better than that for a Fall day. As you can see below, it was gorgeous.

This was the second wedding chapel we’d seen so this must be a wedding venue that’s on demand. Go figure.

We headed straight to the Fest Halle for some food, beer and to listen to the polka band.

The band was really good and there were a few people dancing on the dance floor.

There were a lot of people wearing traditional German clothing. So much fun.

After eating and drinking beer, we headed out to the village to walk around and see what was going on. At the beginning of Main Street, there were two bridges flanking each side.

This river was running underneath the bridges and it had such a spectacular view.

Another shot of the river on the other side of the bridge.

Yay, shopping. There were so many stores and everything was made by artisans.

Down one of the many alleys in the Village, it made you feel like you were in a different world.

As we walked down the street, we heard some wonderful music and saw an outdoor bar. Plus, there was beer!

We stood in line for the beer, but there was a waiter that walked right up to us and asked if we wanted him to serve us. Of course we said yes.

The beer was served in a souvenir plastic stein, and we were happy about that.

I know this is not a good picture of the musician, but he was so good. His guitar playing was stellar and all of his music was 70’s soft rock. Think Boz Scaggs, The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc. This was totally my jam.

This sign cracked me up.

After thoroughly enjoying ourselves, we headed out for the ride back to Atlanta. Like I said, a good time was had by all.

Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever been to Helen, GA for Oktoberfest or to any Oktoberfest. My ultimate trip would be to go to Germany for Oktoberfest. I know several people who have gone and had a great time. A girl can dream, and a girl can make it a reality too.

See ya next time.
