Ah, renovations. In theory it sounds so good; you can make the house layout and finishes exactly the way you want it but is all of the pain actually worth it? I think so. It’s almost like childbirth. Painful while you’re going through it, but you forget all about the pain when you have a bouncing baby at the end of it. Well, all in all, when my house baby was finished, I almost forgot about all the pain. There were some lingering twinges and aches, but they all disappeared after I had my housewarming party with so much champagne.
Back to the last part of my renovation journey series. If you missed the first parts, I have all of the links at the end of this post. It was an interesting journey and I’m glad I wrote it all down so I can look back at it with how far I’ve come from how this house looked in the beginning. As always, a home is ever evolving and there’s so much more to do, but I don’t have to rush and I have time to get it to my perfect forever home.
I totally moved in so I could watch the workers and make sure they showed up and did the work like I wanted it. Also, I agreed to paint the whole interior to save money. We’re getting down the nitty gritty with electrical, plumbing and HVAC inspections. Everything went smooth except for the electrical but I guess the second time’s the charm.
I pulled out a little loveseat I got at the Habitat Restore and made a sleeping area on the side of the living room. It was kinda exciting because I knew we were heading down to the finish line.
I started off in the laundry room by painting the walls and pulling styrofoam ceiling tiles up. Then I painted the tiles on the floor because they were dingy. I decided to put off redoing the laundry room floors because it was attached to the back door foyer and powder room and would be cost prohibitive right now. So painting it is and in the future, I’ll decide what I want to do with it. I did buy a stencil to make the floors gray and white, but I haven’t done it yet. Baby steps.
Next, I installed a light fixture I got from the Habitat Restore, which was my favorite go-to during this period. And it didn’t hurt that it’s right up the street from my house.
Here’s the washer and dryer being brought in.
After that the kitchen refrigerator and dishwasher were brought in.
Here’s my master bedroom which I primed and later on painted a dark and moody black.
The bathroom had the original wooden floors so I decided to just clean them up.
The master bathroom. I knew exactly what I wanted but everybody kept saying don’t put the shower in front of a window. But there were shades so I didn’t see a problem. I won the argument of course.
Getting ready to tile the primary bathroom.
The tile is going up with some corner shelves I got at a liquidation supply company. The brown shower floor tiles I got from Habitat Restore again. You can’t see it in the pictures, but it’s a bronze color with silver streaks. It’s hard to explain but I love this tile. I got five boxes for $38 and I only used three boxes. I used one box on my attic stairs entrance and I still have one box left.
This light fixture I got from the Habitat Restore which I know is a recurring theme, but they’re so good!
My Mom had a sideboard that was in her basement and she suggested that I refinish it and turn it into a vanity for my bathroom. Such a great idea but I almost pulled my hair out sanding this down.
The legs were even darker than the top and I didn’t have all of the tools I needed. If I knew then what I know now, I would be more prepared. This project took so much time and I forgot to take “in-progress” photos, but I will definitely show you the finished product when I do my House Tour in the coming future.
This is me moving in and I was so excited! I made it through without committing a crime and I had a house that fit my personality. A little quirky and weird, but totally comfortable with that.
Here are the promised links to the whole journey. I’m so glad I got through that process. As you know, renovation is not for the faint of heart but you don’t know how true that is until you’ve been through it.

I hope some of you have followed my whole renovation journey and in the near future I will be showing the finished house with before and after pictures together. Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever done a renovation before and how you made it to the other side without going insane. Haha.
Well, I’m off to find something else to either discover or make.
See ya next time.
