Renovating the Exterior – Part 1

After finishing the outside of the house, I was itching to get into the house and do something so I decided to tackle the guest room. There really wasn’t much to do in here but, as you can see, it was extremely dark like the rest of the house and the ceiling had some sort of texture on it.

I watched a couple of Youtube channels about scraping the ceiling and it looked kind of easy, so I decided to try it. It was not an easy job and I spent a few hours on it and it wasn’t really coming off quick enough. A friend told me it might be asbestos because the house was so old, so I got scared and stopped doing it. I’m glad I had a respirator and goggles on.

I went online and looked for some sort of ceiling tiles. Everything was so expensive so I went with these styrofoam La Maison Ceiling Tiles.  You spread Tile Adhesive on the back of them and stick them up. Afterwards you just caulk the seams with  Dap Acrylic Caulk and leave it like it is or paint them.

While I was working on the guest bedroom, the guys were working on the Primary Bedroom. It looked a hot mess. The ceilings had some water damage as well as the floor on one side so they started ripping everything out.

While they were working on fixing the floor and ceiling, they cut an opening from the bedroom leading to another guest bedroom that was getting turned into a primary bathroom and closet.

The door into the second guest bedroom, located in the front hall, was boarded up. So now the second guest bedroom was officially part of the Primary Bedroom.

So now it was time to put up a wall between what’s to become the closet and primary bath. You can also see a small closet on the right that was part of this second guest room. That will come in handy for the primary closet. Looks like they’re making progress and I’m happy about it.

This is the opening from the primary bath into the primary closet.

I came in one day and the kitchen cabinets were taken down. Now I can see my vision of open shelves coming to life in my mind.

I will be finishing my projects in the Guest Bedroom and the Kitchen, which is coming up in Part 3. Please stay tuned to the continuing journey of my reno and let me know in the comments if you’ve ever gone through a renovation and how it went.

Smooches.
