It’s finally Sweata Weather and it could not have come sooner for me. Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons especially when it’s cold enough to wrap up in knits. They’re so comfy cozy and like wrapping yourself in a blanket. I actually prefer to wear a sweater over an actual coat in the cold weather and if it’s a “coatigan” even better.

A few weeks ago, I wrote blog posts about the Fall Trends that I was seeing in fashion and interior design in Part 1 and Part 2. As I was working on this blog post, I thought I would use the trends to pick out some sweaters that are following these trends. Most of these are ones that I’ve never thought of wearing before but now I’m intrigued. I’ll show you a Fall/Winter 2023/24 runway look in the trend and give you some examples of how you can incorporate it into your wardrobe. Sit back, grab a pumpkin spice latte and enjoy.

Red, Red and More Red

The biggest trend on the runways was definitely red. It was all over the place and designers such as Hermes, Bottega Veneta, Elie Saab, Ferragamo, Stella McCartney and of course Valentino who is known for their red had multiple looks in this color. Although bright red is the color of the season, deeper reds are trending too like wine, burgundy and maroon. So if bright red isn’t your jam, try one of the deeper reds. One thing about red is that you really won’t have to do too much more; it speaks for itself.

Tory Burch sent this beautiful red midi sweater dress down the runway with a deep v-neck and paired it with black fishnets and red pumps. Stunning.

Like I said, I love a good “coatigan” and they definitely got me when they added a hood. I would love to wrap up in this beauty.

Very minimal but striking, this sweater makes a statement all on its own.

It seems every year, zip front sweaters are in and this one in red is calling my name.

When I saw this textural cardigan, I swooned. So beautiful and you could even put this over some pajamas and it would be poppin’.

Silver Bullet

Metallics are always trending, but this season there has definitely been a move from gold to silver. I blame it on Beyonce. Haha. But regardless of Queen Bey, chrome is in for this season all the way down to accessories. All over the runways designers like Jil Sander, Jonathan Simkhai, Blumarine and Laqwuan Smith showed some version of silver. Whether it’s shiny chrome, which was prevalent, or a molten dark tone, this is one trend I definitely want to try.

Here’s Proenza Schouler flexing their mastery of unusual combinations with this crinkled silver dress paired with a flirty white underskirt and tan booties. I mean, on paper, this should not work but it totally does.

This silver sweater is totally a classic cable, but in this color becomes very edgy, especially paired with the silver mini-skirt. This would look equally good with a pair of loose fit jeans, black pants or even a pencil skirt.

This is also a silver sweater that could be dressed up or down. Look how good it looks tucked into the front of these jeans.

This sweater looks so sweet with this pleated white skirt, but could easily be dressed down with a pair of leggings.

If you really want to get fancy, this silver sequin sweater is just what you need for a New Year’s Party or just because.

Ice Blue

Ice, Ice Baby. This pale blue is definitely hot this Fall/Winter. It can seem a little cutesy or child-like but take another look and you’ll see that it can be edgy if you style it right. Loewe, Christopher Kane and Sandy Liang showed beautiful dresses in satin and knits. It is surprisingly versatile and can range from sweet to edgy.

Take a look at this very pretty Fendi dress. On its own, it’s very sweet but it is totally roughed up with the black combat boots and black bag. The juxtaposition is hot.

I love a loose turtleneck, because I hate being choked by a tight one, and I usually pull them up like this. So I had to include this as it’s totally my style.

Asymmetry is my jam, so this sweater is great and in this color, even greater.

This delicate sweater in this color is so fabulous. I would definitely pair it with menswear pants for contrast.

Get it in a classic crew neck and you can’t go wrong. It will literally go with anything.

Fringe

Fringe was everywhere and I have to say, some of it was ridiculous, but I believe you can always find a way to incorporate a trend if you use it in small amounts. Cult Gaia, Ganni, Philip Plein and Jason Wu showed this trend on the runways and like I said some of it was just for the spectacle I believe. But you could easily translate this trend into some wearable clothes.

This dress by Michael Kors is everything and one that I would wear if I had the chance. Even though the fringe is exaggerated, the black color gives it sophistication. Paired with the boots and the sleek hair, it’s perfection.

Give this green fringed sweater a try for a cool take on the fringe trend. There’s a whole line of fringe across the front, but it’s not too much.

This orange fringed sweater adds just a little bit of fringe to give it an unexpected twist and the color is perfect for Fall.

A riff on a Chanel coat, this tweed look has fringe around the pockets and the bottom. So chic and as you can see, it can totally be paired with jeans for a stylish and casual look.

A coatigan again. Yes! In this oatmeal color, I’m all over it.

Brown is the New Black?

Brown doesn’t always get the love it deserves but I’ve always loved a good chocolatey piece of clothing. There were all shades of brown on the runways this year and it really leaned into a rich, dark chocolate with an almost sepia tone. Worn with any other color, it’s so versatile and could totally be the new black. Ulla Johnson, Tod’s and Tove showed different variations on the runway.

Hermes killed it so much with all of their brown looks that it took me a long time to pick just one. The fur, the short cargo pants and the suede boots makes this a killer monochromatic look.

Let this dark sweater drape down over one shoulder and it’s all chocolatey sexy goodness.

Guess what? A coatigan with pockets. You’re gonna be sick of me by the end of this blog post but I hope not. This one is really special.

This shade is particularly pretty and I love a good v-neck that also covers your booty. Makes for a perfect legging outfit.

I had to add at least one sweater dress. This one has pockets and a loose neck. Enough said.

Butter Yellow

They call it mellow yellow. If you know you know. This buttery yellow color apparently caused controversy with the fashion editors. Some of them thought that it was boring and too close to cream but I love it. Besides, designers were also showing mustards, acid yellows and lemon yellows so if you don’t go for the pale there were plenty others to choose from. Givenchy, Chloe, Tod’s and  

A.W.A.K.E. Mode showed this color all up and down their runways.

Trove did their thing with this gorgeous pale yellow dress. Like with the pale blue, pairing it with edgier accessories and black makes it more modern.

I love this ribbed sweater and you could wear it with any neutral color or jeans as well.

Cardigans are another one of my favorites and this fluffy one is so cute.

This delicate sweater is so pretty and as usual I would pair it with a menswear style of pants as a contrast.

This yellow sweatshirt totally qualifies and would be a wonderful new addition to my collection of pandemic sweats.

If you don’t have one of these colors or styles, I would check some of these items out. I don’t think I would have given any of these colors a try before I researched these trends. For example:

• I’m not a “color” person so I don’t have anything in red, but it just looks so stunning that I’m going to revisit it
• I’ve always been a gold girl so silver is totally new for me but I dig it. I also found a silver sweater that I’ve never worn before so this blog post is right on time.
• I’ve never been a pastel person either, so the ice blue didn’t appeal to me but these new pieces are forcing me to give it another look.
• Fringe was never in my vocabulary, but in small doses I think I could try it
• Brown was always my jam and I will continue to love it
• I bought a pale yellow sweater a few years ago and never wore it; now I’m definitely going to wear it.

So, the moral of the story is, you can do the trends or not, but sometimes it’s fun to try new things. Let me know if you would ever try any of these or if you have any of these trends already.
