After the 70’s people kinda fell out of love with brown. There’s been so many times when you would hear homeowners say they hate their decor because everything is “brown”. Now that Modern Organic is a thing, along with Boho and Desert Modern, brown is back and it’s back with a vengeance. From taupes, to tans, caramels, milk chocolate, amber, copper, etc. there’s a variety and a tone for everyone.
Kelly Wearstler and Amber Interiors have been doing brown the whole time and usually appealing to a niche customer, but now it seems everybody is on board. Although white will never be replaced in its entirety, brown is the new neutral to use in interiors right now.
During the pandemic and now afterwards, we are truly connected with nature since we spent more time than usual in our backyards. Brown, in all its shades, is really grounding and makes us feel comfy and cozy but it can be equally striking and sophisticated.
This living room is so striking from the brown tiled wallpaper outlined with wood and the way the yellow flower arrangement pops off of the brown. You’ll find that brown goes with any color so it can truly be used as a neutral.
This living room is a mixture of other neutrals along with the brown.
This brown below is a taupe color that gives this living room a monotone scheme from the walls to the furniture.
I love how half of the wall is in a clay brown and the rest of the wall is in a cream color.
Dark and Moody is all the rage now and in this bedroom, it would feel like a warm hug.
Look at this fabulous brown wallpaper.
As always, you can use brown in a focal area of your home if you don’t want the commitment of painting a whole room.
This putty brown color is in the entrance of this apartment. It creates a very serene feeling.
I love this paint color. It’s called praline and gives a sense of drama to this focal wall..
Board and batten is still hot and done in this milk chocolate brown makes it very unique.
Brown doesn’t only have to mean paint either. You can use it in your furnishings, the upholstery, the art and the decorative accessories.
I had to add this couch from Soho Home because it is just ridiculous, in a good way. Soho Home is now my favorite for home furnishings and accessories. Their sofas are epic as evidenced by the one below. It’s not for everyone, but if you want to make a statement, “Woot, there it is”!
This room is cool because it has several different tones of brown wood, from the dark ceiling to the ash toned chairs and the light tones in the tables.
After seeing all of these browns and how they can be used in interiors right now, would you try some of them out? My personal decor style uses a lot of different brown colors in furnishings and accessories but I’ve never tried it on the walls. Another thing to add to my “try it” list.
