Curvy Furniture
This has got to be in my top two of most favorite trends following wallpaper murals. Curves and round edges in sofas, mirrors and chairs have a decidedly 70’s funky retro look to it.
These curved benches echo the curves of the dining table. I love this unexpected seating arrangement as I’m always looking for different ways to add versatile seating in a dining room or breakfast nook. These curved benches could easily move to the living room if you needed extra seating.
I’ve never seen a curved bed like this with a pleated headboard and I love it. It feels like it would envelope you as you were sleeping and the fuzzy blanket adds that extra bit of texture.
This living room with the curvy low slung sofa, the rounded coffee table and the rounded club chair have the 70’s retro vibe even though the windows are Spanish. But I think the curves in the window makes the furniture work. The accent chair is in the boucle fabric that has been everywhere this year and is on trend for 2023 also.
Curves, curves and more curves. This is not for everyone, but is very interesting and dynamic. In neutral tones, it can be very versatile either all together or picking one piece as an accent in a room.
This living room has three trends in one. There’s a curvy sofa, a moody atmosphere and wallpaper. Velvet will also still be hot for 2023. This is the type of room where you can curl up and read a book or take a nap.
Irregular mirrors have been everywhere this year and will be on trend in 2023 also. The shapes are very organic and can work with any style. With a gold frame, it can work very well with Mid-Century Modern, Boho, Dark Academia and Transitional. In a black frame it could go with Industrial, Modern Farmhouse, Modern and Contemporary. You could also go frameless, which would go with any style.
I love this brass textured mirror over a console and also the look of brass over a dark paint color. It would also be beautiful over a bar cart or in a bathroom. Love this.
I love the way they paired two mirrors above this fantastic bench. As you can see, it delivers a lot of impact in an entryway.
A frameless mirror leaning against the wall lends an air of casualness to a pretty formal space. This also would work in a casual space though. I love how the bottom of the mirror is flat so it will not wobble. A little design detail that was very thoughtful.
Modern Art Deco
Modern Art Deco is a stylized and glamorous look from the 1920’s and 1930’s featuring geometric, streamlined and symmetrical shapes. What separates modern art deco from the traditional look is splashes of modern art, white paint on the walls, and other interior styles mixed with Art Deco.
The seating nook below feels like traditional Art Deco but something about the moodiness of the wall color and the brass touches gives it a modern twist.
What makes this Art Deco bedroom modern is the use of the woven headboard and the white bedding. It lends an updated touch of freshness to this style.
The geometric wallpaper, the classic art deco bedside table and the pendant are all a nod to the Art Deco style. The bedding and gallery wall all add a modernity to this room that makes this room a perfect fusion of Art Deco and Traditional.
Lighting
Lighting has come a long and the trend in 2023 is for eye-catching, spectacular lighting in all areas of the house. In years past, this was more of a throwaway item for the average homeowner and the options of unique lighting was only for customers that hired an interior designer. Now, many retail companies and big box stores are providing lighting for the new discerning customers.
Bubble lights will be big in 2023. The clear bubbles below make you think of blowing bubbles but the lines of texture add an unexpected twist.
Having two pendants above the dining room instead of a single chandelier is also trending for 2023. I love this trend because it gives lighting to the whole table instead of just the middle. These simple lampshade pendants are very traditional but adding two gives it a modern touch.
This is a trend that I love in lighting. Organic shapes give a very unique look to your interior and the white with gold is totally unexpected. This would also be perfect above a master bed.
This table lamp hits the trend in lighting for using stone materials. The base is made of travertine and the lampshade is a matte black metal. The organic look pairs perfectly with the curvy vases.
Table lamps are getting curvy for 2023. It’s a play on the arched floor lamp but not as extreme. A slight curve in wood gives this floor lamp a feminine look along with the pleated shade.
Organization
Home Edit and Marie Kondo were trending during the pandemic because people were working from home and were either looking to organize their work spaces or they had time on their hands to purge and organize other rooms in their houses. We are still obsessed with organization post pandemic and will likely continue to be in the future. There’s something about a clean, organized space that gives us a sense of serenity. At least for me it works to calm me down from all of the chaos in the outside world.
Closets were one of the top rooms to organize in the last few years. Everyone is looking to make this more of a “room” and just as beautiful as any other rooms in the house.
Pantries will also be popular in 2023 as an ultra organized space. Home Edit and the Container Store have wonderful storage items to tackle this room or closet or niche. Whatever you have, add design elements that look intentional like the oriental rug in the pantry below. I love the dark color wrapped all the way around the room and the way the wood contrasts with the color.
Linen closets were a big hit with Marie Kondo like organization and will continue to be in 2023. So many people, including me, have no idea what’s in their closet, much less have it organized. I’ll take inspiration from the one below to tackle my linen closets next.
Craft Studios and Art Studios will be big in 2023 and need to be organized to the nth degree. Trust me, I know. A place for everything and everything in its place. That’s my motto now because spending a couple of hours trying to find a button is not fun.
There is also what’s considered “out” next year. But I always take that with a grain of salt.
Gray is supposedly “out” but I say that gray will never be out. I think that gray will move towards warmer shades as well as greige which is a combination of gray and beige.
White Kitchens are out and I do agree with this although white is classic and will never be gone completely. We are definitely moving towards colored cabinets as well as wood cabinets.
The Minimalist Look is out and “More is More” is definitely in. From the 70’s funk look, to Dark Academia and Wallpaper,
Caning is out and we’re moving towards Rattan and Woven furniture.
So if you follow the trends for the New Year, I hope both of these blog posts (Part 1 and Part 2) speak to you and you will be inspired to try one or all of them. Let me know if you agree with these trends in the comments.
