It’s Fall and I’m loving it. The air is cooler and it’s almost sweater weather. Football is getting ready to start and the U.S. Open is being played. All the things that I love. The Fall decor trends for 2024 are particularly exciting this year for me at least. It consists of Mossy Greens, Deep Reds, Color Drenching, Western Gothic, Biophilic and the Vintage Aesthetic. In this blog post, I’m going to talk about the first three. Please stay tuned for Part 2 coming up soon.
I just wrote a blog post about mossy greens and deep reds being a big hit in the Fall/Winter fashion shows. If you missed it, you can catch it in The Top Four Fashion Trends for Fall 2024. These two colors are also trending for nails which you can read about in Fall 2024 Nail Trends. Color Drenching is a paint technique that is catching on quickly and if you don’t know what that is, keep reading.
So let’s get into it.
Mossy Greens
If loving green is wrong, I don’t wanna be right. If you’re of a certain age, you’ll know what I mean. Like I said before, mossy green is trending in fashion, nails and interiors. Green will never go away but this year was all about the moss, which is described as a muted yellow-green. This is my favorite color of green and I’m so excited that it’s in the forefront of all that’s trending this Fall. It conjures up the English countryside and enchanted forests and I’m here for it.
A mossy green limestone allows you to see variations of color in this beautiful vignette. Very simple but effective.
Try a muted landscape mural in the entryway to make you feel like you’re walking into a painting.

These mossy green mohair chairs add a surprising twist in this living area. I wonder if they swivel?
I’m living for this green corduroy sofa. It looks so cozy and coupled with the wall color, it would probably feel like a big old hug.

I love this bedroom so much. I can imagine this being in a cottage in the English countryside.
Another mural, but in a bedroom with arched cut-outs. It looks like you’re looking out the window. So elegant.
Moss green even looks good in the kitchen paired with a lighter wood.
Murano glass side tables would be stunning anywhere in your home.
These fern prints come in a set of two and would go with any design style.
I’ve seen this chain screen several times on the web and I still love it. It reminds me of those bead curtains from the 70’s, but much nicer.

Deep Reds
Reds have been trending since last year and it’s in direct response to the Barbie overload from the movie. Barbie pink was everywhere and people were sick of it. I know I was. So, it naturally morphed into red last Fall and was trending for 2024. As Fall begins, it darkens into burgundy, oxblood, wine, dark cherry and maroon. Beautiful rich colors that can give your home a very elegant and old World feel. It can be used sparingly as well as going all out for drama’s sake.
A deep wine red makes this cabinet and desk stand out next to a more muted wall color.
How beautiful is this foyer with its burgundy wall color? The dark wood gives it a rustic but elegant look.
I love this dark cherry color in this library and especially like how the hot red plays off the cooler tone.
Blood red leather sofas give this industrial space a soul and keeps it from looking so stark.
A merlot paint color makes this bedroom so sophisticated.
This is everything!!!! All the textures and different tones make this a space I would love to cuddle up in.

Again with the hot red chairs and the cranberry color on the back wall. So stunning.
Love the double moldings in this theater space.
Oxblood red tile in the kitchen? It totally works.
This designer rug from Perigold is so beautiful and would take any room to another level.
I can’t believe that Target would have a vintage dark red leather and chrome chair, but they do.

Color Drenching
This trend is when you use a single color to paint the 4 walls, the ceiling, any trim, radiators, etc. It immerses the room and makes it feel cozier especially if you use a darker color. The technique has been used for years, but it’s really emerged recently as a hot trend in interior design. It can make a smaller room look bigger because when you paint everything the same color, the eyes keep traveling around because there’s no break between the walls and ceiling nor is there a break between the walls and trim..
This is my primary bedroom that I decorated for the Spring 2024 Once Room Challenge. I color drenched the room in a dark forest green to really make a statement.

It’s called “Calomine” by Farrow & Ball which is really unfortunate. It reminds me of the lotion my mother used to put on my skin when I got poison ivy. Does anybody else remember that?
This fabulous dining room has a classic design but takes it up a notch with the blue color drenching, wall molding and ceiling medallion.
Color drenching really accents moldings and any texture you have on the ceiling like in the salon below.
A different variation on the color drenching technique is to match wallpaper to the ceiling. It just adds another layer of texture.
Wallpapering the fireplace wall to match the ceilings. Very sophisticated in this black living room.

Another way to add texture is to limewash a feature wall like in this reading nook.
Playing with different sheens like this glossy ceiling adds a little somethin’ somethin’.
This glossy blue ceiling is like glass. Spectacular.
This mixture of wallpaper, glossy and matte paint adds a lot of interest for not a lot of money in this office.
