Fall is coming and I’m so happy. The crisp air, fall festivals, football season, fire pits with s’mores, sweater weather, the September issue of Vogue; need I say more? I could go on and on. Fall is EVERYTHING to me. I especially love looking at what’s trending in the world of design and fashion.
These are some of my top trends for Fall that encompass the Fashion and Interior Design world. There’s so much that I wanted to talk about so I broke it up into two parts. This is Part One. I’ve also included more accessible items with these trends. Sit back, get a cup of coffee or tea, and enjoy.
Black and White
This is being referred to as the Cruella de Ville look, but I think black and white is always in fashion. It just ebbs and flows in and out of the top trends. This season it was all over the runways from coats to dresses and of course in separates.
Louis Vuitton showed a sculptural dress coat, Laquan Smith a striped bodycon dress and Proenza Schouler showed a sharp separate look.
The interior design world was also in love with black and white. From a simple painted treatment that anyone could do, to black and white art and a fabulous cowhide chair.
Here are some accessible fashion looks in black and white. Like I said before, people wear black and white whether it’s on trend or not, but this season you can really lean into it. It’s very easy to wear and kind of a no-brainer, especially as separates.
If you’d like to try some decor pieces in black and white, try this rug, the vases or these marble bookends. A little goes a long way and lends a sophistication to an interior.
Red
Apparently, for Fall 2023 Red is the new Pink. No shade to Barbie, but I’m over pink. After all of the Barbiecore hoopla with Fifty Shades of Pink, the natural progression is to Red. Most were shown at Fashion Week with orange undertones, but there were definitely hits of red wine.
Hermes did a head to toe look which included a purse, Sandy Liang showed a punchy track suit and Jonathan Simkhai had one of my favorites with a dress and combat boots. Always a good look to me.
For interiors, the design world went for a monochromatic look with various shades of red, including wine. The hutch gives this kitchen a dramatic focal point and the pops of red in this bedroom goes very well with all of the blue.
In terms of wearability, I personally think that one stand out piece in red is the perfect touch. Like this Michael Kors watch, this funky crop top with the magnificent sleeves and these suede Nikes.
As I said with fashion, interior design is the same way with this color. Pops of it in judiciously placed spots will give your home a bit of energy. Like this artwork that’s a little more subdued, this stunning rug and the softest throw.
Silver and Chrome
This Fall Season, instead of waiting for New Year’s Eve to bust out the silver, it was on all of the Runways for Fall/Winter. Gold and Brass isn’t going anywhere, but right now silver is so modern and versatile. Designers were showing it in clothing, jewelry, shoes, bags and interiors.
The pleats on this dress by Altuzarra are gorgeous, as well as the Michael Kors skirt shown as a separate. Chrome nails were seen on all of the runway too.
Interiors had this fabulous silver sofa and chair that just about took me out. I almost started hyperventilating for both of them and I’m a “gold” girl. There was just something about them that was so modern. I also loved the vintage chrome and glass table that I feel would go with any decor style.
I’m really into silver shoes right now. I just bought some silver Crocs that I absolutely love. These shoes from Chiko are so chic. I want to try the pants with white accessories and the silver tote is in my Amazon cart right now. I was blown away by the smoky silver stools and they come with two for one price.
Fur
Fur is in every Fall as far as I’m concerned but the biggest trend was that the hair came in a variety of lengths. I call it the Yeti look, but it was all over the place.
Fur is usually nothing unusual at Fashion Week, but this fur was on bags and shoes too.
Pillows, throws, couches and bedspreads also got the fur treatment in interiors.
I love this Birkenstock dupe with the neutral fur on it. I think it’s going into my Amazon cart as well as the slipper. The black Sasquatch coat is weird, but I love it!
The mongolian fur on this chair will give your living room a fun twist and you can also try the bench and an office chair to add a little bit of this trend to your decor.
I spent so much time down the rabbit hole researching for this post and I really hope you enjoyed and see how fashion and interior are intertwined. Let me know what your favorite trend is for Fall. Mine is, surprisingly, silver. Who knew a “gold” girl could be blown away by silver.
See you soon for Part 2.
