For the man who has everything or at least thinks he does.

Shopping for dads is a special kind of torture. Mother’s Day rolls around and there are endless options—flowers, jewelry, candles, handbags, spa gifts, brunches, and approximately 17 million things marketed directly to women. Father’s Day? Different story entirely.

Because every dad falls into one of two categories:

Dad already bought himself what he wanted.

Or…

Dad insists he doesn’t want anything.

So helpful.

As a lifelong Daddy’s Girl, Father’s Day has always been one of my favorite holidays. There’s just something special about Dads. They’re the first men who teach us how we deserve to be treated, the ones who embarrass us in public, tell the same stories 437 times, and somehow become even more lovable as they get older.

When I was little, my dad could fix anything, build anything, and somehow knew everything. Looking back, I now realize he was probably making half of it up as he went along—but confidence counts for something.

The older I get, the more I appreciate the memories, the advice, and yes, even the corny dad jokes.

So when Father’s Day rolls around, I want to find something that’s a little more thoughtful. That’s why I’m focusing on two of my favorite places to shop for unique gifts this year: Etsy and Uncommon Goods. Because if your Dad already has everything, you’re going to have to get creative.

Etsy

There is something incredibly special about giving a gift that doesn’t feel mass-produced.

Etsy is packed with independent artists, makers, woodworkers, leather craftsmen, designers, and small business owners creating products you won’t find in every department store. Many of the gifts can be personalized, customized, or made specifically for your dad, which instantly makes them more meaningful.

It’s literally the opposite of panic-buying a gift card at the last minute.

Clothing

For the dad who somehow still owns T-shirts from 1998.

Etsy is full of unique graphic tees, custom hats, vintage-inspired apparel, and personalized clothing that reflects his hobbies, favorite sports teams, sense of humor, or questionable obsession with grilling. Whether he’s a golf dad, fishing dad, bourbon dad, or “don’t touch the thermostat” dad, there’s something with his name on it.

Personal

These are the gifts that tend to make all of us a little emotional.

Think personalized wallets, engraved watches, custom family artwork, photo gifts, leather accessories, and keepsakes featuring meaningful dates or family memories. These are the gifts that remind Dad that while he may occasionally drive us crazy, he’s still our favorite guy.

Cooking

Every Dad eventually reaches one of two stages in life: Master Griller or Aspiring Master Griller.

Etsy has incredible handcrafted cutting boards, personalized BBQ tools, custom spice collections, grilling accessories, recipe books, and kitchen gadgets that feel far more thoughtful than whatever was sitting on an end cap at a big-box store.

Just Because

These are the gifts that don’t fit neatly into a category but somehow end up being the most memorable. Funny gifts. Hobby gifts. Conversation starters. Handmade treasures. The things that make Dad laugh, smile, or immediately say, “Where did you find this?” Those are usually the winners.

Uncommon Goods

If Etsy is all about handmade creativity, Uncommon Goods is all about discovery. It’s one of my favorite places to browse because they specialize in unique, inventive, and often completely unexpected gifts. The kind of gifts that make people stop and say, “I’ve never seen that before.” Which is exactly what you need when shopping for a man who already owns every gadget known to mankind.

Sports

For the dad who still believes he could have gone pro.

Uncommon Goods offers sports-inspired gifts, memorabilia, personalized items, game-day accessories, and experiences that appeal to every level of sports fanatic. Whether he’s watching from the couch or still pretending he can outrun someone under the age of 30, there’s something he’ll love.

Music

For the dad who insists that music peaked in his generation.

You know the one. The dad who says, “They don’t make music like they used to.” Uncommon Goods offers creative gifts inspired by music history, instruments, vinyl records, concerts, and favorite artists. It’s a great category for dads who still have strong opinions about every genre.

Just Because

These are my favorite.

The quirky inventions. The conversation pieces. The personalized keepsakes. The gifts nobody knew existed until they saw them. These are often the gifts that become family favorites because they show that you actually put some thought into the shopping process instead of grabbing whatever was available two days before Father’s Day.

The Real Gift

At the end of the day, Father’s Day isn’t really about the gift. It’s about the phone call. The visit. The memories. The stories you’ve heard a hundred times and somehow still listen to.

It’s about celebrating the men who taught us how to ride a bike, change a tire, balance a checkbook, cast a fishing line, throw a baseball, or simply believe in ourselves.

And for all my fellow Daddy’s Girls out there, it’s about celebrating the first man who stole our hearts. Even if he still refuses to tell us what he wants for Father’s Day.

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads, Grandfathers, Stepdads, Bonus Dads, and Father Figures out there. May your grills stay hot, your thermostats remain untouched, and your children finally stop changing the settings on your television.

See ya next time.
