Halloween is one of those holidays where you can go all in—or just sprinkle in a few spooky touches—and still feel festive. Whether you’re the “cobwebs on every surface” type or the “maybe I’ll just buy one pumpkin and call it a day” type, there’s a way to make your home scream (politely, of course) Halloween.
You already know I’ve been deep in the Fall Decorating trenches (if you missed Fall Decorating – Part 1 with Entryways, Foliage, and Outdoors or Fall Decorating – Part 2 with Fireplaces, Bedrooms, Bathrooms, Kitchens, Dining Rooms, and Living Rooms, go back and catch up—you’ll thank me later). But today, we’re talking specifically about the main event: Halloween.
Let’s get into the tricks (and treats). Psst—check out my “Get the Look” links if you want the curb appeal without the craft-store meltdown.
Curb Appeal
First impressions matter—especially when you’re about to greet trick-or-treaters or nosey neighbors who walk by a little too slow. This is your chance to decide: do you want your house to look like a haunted mansion or like Pinterest threw up a pumpkin patch? Both are acceptable, and frankly, fabulous.
- Minimalist option: a few stacked pumpkins, lanterns with flickering candles, maybe one chic wreath.
- Extra option: skeletons climbing your house, fog machines, jack-o’-lantern armies, and a “you can’t sit with us” vibe for anyone who shows up without a costume.

Entryways
Your entry sets the tone for your haunted lair—or chic seasonal showcase.
- Classic chic: a moody wreath, a candelabra on your console, and a runner that whispers “I’m festive, but I still have taste.”
- All in: bats flying out of the doorway, fog swirling at your feet, and a life-sized skeleton greeter (bonus points if you give it a name and seasonal outfit changes).

Mantles
If you have a fireplace, this is your Halloween stage. Your mantle can swing spooky or sophisticated.
- Classic chic: black candlesticks, white pumpkins, maybe a mirror draped in gauzy cheesecloth.
- All in: haunted portrait frames, orange string lights, spiderwebs galore, and a raven or two for good measure.
This is the perfect spot to let your personality shine—because nothing says “me” like a carefully arranged skeleton family.

Dinnertime
Hosting a Halloween dinner party is the ultimate flex. You can go moody with dark florals, black plates, and velvet tablecloths, or lean into fun with themed cocktails and place settings that double as party favors.
And let’s not forget about food styling. Charcuterie boards can (and should) involve a few gummy worms, candy eyeballs, or cheese carved into bats. Because life is too short for boring snacks.

Vignettes
Don’t underestimate the power of a small setup. A single side table styled with a stack of creepy books, a candle, and a skull is enough to give the vibe without overwhelming your space. Layering little moments like this around your home makes everything feel intentional, even if your decorating style is “halfway there and running on candy corn.”

Final Thoughts
Halloween decorating doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing. You can add just a whisper of spooky—or let your inner goth interior designer run wild. Either way, 2025 is your year to mix chic and creepy without apology.
And remember—if you need more seasonal inspiration, head back to my posts on Fall Decorating Ideas Part 1 and Part 2 (links above). I’ve also included handy “Get the Look” links throughout this post so you can snag pieces for your own haunted (or not-so-haunted) house.
So…are you going subtle pumpkin chic this year, or full-on haunted house vibes?
See ya next time.
