If you’ve been around here a while, you already know what I mean when I say something is “giving me life.” It’s not just a casual like, or a passing interest. No, when something gives me life, it’s that deep, soul-stirring spark of joy that makes me feel like I could write poetry about grout lines or get misty-eyed over a perfectly styled bookshelf. I’ve written about planters, frames, books, even the color yellow—but now that the temperatures are finally dipping, my heart (and my Pinterest boards) are fully consumed by fireplaces.
There’s just something about a fireplace, right? It’s primal, cozy, and chic all at once. Fireplaces are more than functional—they’re the backdrop of stolen glances, late-night conversations, and mugs of something warm that may or may not have a splash of bourbon in it. They’re approachable but never boring, and they ground a room in natural beauty. Wood is what makes me want to throw on slippers, light a candle, and sink into the sofa while the fire crackles.
Tile
Tile is where fireplaces get playful. Pattern, color, texture—it’s all fair game. A tiled fireplace can be sleek and modern with geometric lines, or bold and eclectic with Moroccan-inspired patterns. And don’t get me started on glossy tile paired with flickering flames—absolutely hypnotic. Tile fireplaces are the chameleons of the bunch, ready to match any personality, and they give me life because they remind me that design should be fun.
Stone & Cement
Stone and cement fireplaces? These are the ones that say, “I’m timeless, and I dare you to argue otherwise.” Stone adds that raw, elemental beauty, whether it’s a chunky stacked stone wall or a smooth marble masterpiece. Cement, on the other hand, feels modern and architectural—minimalist, but with an edge. Together, they create fireplaces that are grounding, tactile, and impossibly chic. They give me life because they balance permanence with presence.
