Welcome to 2025.  It’s the beginning of the year and that time when we look for the trends in interior design and decide if we want to do a refresh or a full blown redesign in our home. This year interior design is embracing its inner vintage diva, donning brass accents like a red-carpet accessory, partaking in the quiet luxury trend and unapologetically indulging in the cozy, chocolatey hues of brown. If your home could talk, it would probably say, “I’m feeling so 2025.” Let’s dive into this year’s hottest trends and why your decor deserves a glow-up.

Go Vintage

I’ve long been a proponent of thrifting and shopping vintage. Vintage is considered older than 20 years but less than 100. Anything older than that is “antique”.This year, vintage is flexing its muscles in modern interiors unlike any other time. People are really embracing sustainability and I’m so glad. We’re talking about that mid-century credenza you scored at a flea market or your aunt’s retro lamp that finally feels chic instead of shabby. Go through your parents or grandparents stuff and find those gems that you can repurpose or just clean up and use.. It’s so much fun.

I wrote blog posts on the best antique fairs and markets around the country. Check them out here: The Best Antique Fairs and Markets Part 1 & The Best Antique Fairs and Markets Part 2. I also shared the most recent trip to my favorite market in Atlanta which is Scott Antique Market on the 2nd weekend of the month all year round. Scott Antique Market – The place to go if you’re into vintage like me.

Living Rooms

The trick to nailing vintage in 2025 is to mix, not match. Pair that distressed leather armchair with sleek contemporary art, reupholster a piece of vintage furniture with a modern fabric, repurpose a vintage piece into something you wouldn’t have thought of and you’ll have a room that is uniquely yours.

Kitchens

Kitchens are a favorite of mine to use vintage pieces because you can always pick up old mason jars, glasses, plates, bowls, you name it from thrifting. Big pieces can also be used in the kitchen. Think stained glass, farm tables as kitchen islands, hutches, etc. I even used boards from my old waterbed for open shelving in my kitchen and let me tell you those boards certainly qualify as “vintage”.

Bathroom

People have long been using vintage or antique pieces for vanities in the bedroom, but usually fairly straight forward cabinets. Now, we’re getting creative and using sideboards, tables and the sky’s the limit. You can retro-fit just about anything you’d like to fit in a bathroom. I love using reclaimed wood too.

This is the most creative trend out of all of them, because finding vintage pieces is so much fun and you can really use your imagination to repurpose, combine and deconstruct any items into something unique and fun. When you go on the hunt, there’s no limit to what you’ll find.

Brown is the New Everything

I wrote a blog post awhile back about Brown being the new white, but I actually think it’s the new white, the new beige and the new black. So basically it’s the new EVERYTHING. See the post here, Brown is the New White. Paint companies are also getting in on it and several of them have picked various shades of brown as the 2025 Color of the Year, including the Granddaddy of them all, Pantone!

Remember when brown was the forgotten stepchild of the color wheel? Well, 2025 called, and brown—yes, brown—is finally getting its time to shine. Think sumptuous chocolate sofas, rich caramel rugs, and walls painted in shades that make you want to curl up with a cup of cocoa or coffee. There’s a Brown Renaissance and I am totally here for it.

Living Rooms

Brown is grounding, warm, and oh-so-inviting. Plus, it pairs beautifully with nearly everything—including your morning coffee, which will no longer clash with your couch. Wrap your living room walls in chocolatey goodness, pick brown decor items or do it all in brown. To me, nothing is wrong in design as long as you love it.

Bedrooms

You really can’t get more cozy than being enveloped in brown in your bedroom. So I went all out to show you how all brown is not too much. Just concentrate on different shades and textures so it won’t feel one note.

Bathrooms

No, brown does not look “dirty” in the bathroom. Check these out. Brown can look just as sophisticated as beige or white.

There’s so many shades of brown that I don’t think you’ll come up short in finding something that suits you. Try pillows if you just wanna take baby steps or go all out with brown tile. I even saw a wooden toilet seat, that I haven’t seen in decades, come back. LOL

Brass is Back

After a brief foray into chrome and silver in the past year, brass is back but in a bigger way. Instead of small brass items, use brass to make a big statement in any room. Also, it’s not bright and pristine, it’s aged and a little banged up. Picture unlacquered brass light fixtures, cabinet handles, and mirror frames that add a touch of glam without veering into Vegas territory. Perfect for vintage and thrift shopping. Yay!

Big Spaces

Use brass sheeting on walls, doors, in stairwells and even bathrooms. The patina is what keeps it from being too much.

Kitchens & Bars

Brass has that uncanny ability to make everything look more expensive. It’s like the Instagram filter your kitchen didn’t know it needed. Check out these unlacquered finishes. It’s making me swoon!

Small touches of brass will always be in style, so sprinkle it around your room like in this kitchen.

You can buy sheeting and even strips of brass for any of your projects to create something truly unique. Brass accessories are always available whether thrifted, at Goodwill or in big box stores. Etsy is one of my favorite places to look for vintage brass pieces too.

Quiet Luxury

If your home decor could whisper, it would say, “I’m fabulous, darling.” Quiet luxury is all about understated elegance. Think cashmere or wool throws, minimalist designs, and high-quality finishes that don’t scream opulence but rather politely suggest it. It was a favorite trend in fashion and it’s coming over into interior design this year. Think California Casual or Modern Organic but in a more minimalistic way. Less is certainly more with this trend.

Living Rooms

Avoid over-branding or anything that feels too loud. Neutral tones reign and nothing should stand out too much. Remember, the quietest design often makes the loudest statement. Avoid tchotchkes and stick to bigger decor items.

Bedrooms

Quiet Luxury in the bedroom is what I think everyone wants. To come into your private space and feel serene and soothed.

Bathrooms

Everyone also wants quiet and luxurious bathrooms that feel like a spa. Get big fluffy towels and bath mats, creamy soaps and dimmable lights for that spa-like feeling.

To get this look, think streamlined natural materials, neutral tones and different textures.

Here’s a fun trick. You can make these trends work together if you can’t decide which one you like the best:

  1. Start with brown as your base—a chocolatey sofa or wall.
  2. Layer in vintage pieces that have character. (No, your college futon doesn’t count.)
  3. Add quiet luxury through plush textures and muted tones.
  4. Sprinkle in brass accents for a dash of glam.

The result? A home that feels warm, stylish, and distinctly you—with just enough 2025 flair to make your neighbors jealous.

So go forth and decorate, my friends. And remember: Brown is chic, brass is boss, quiet luxury is bougie (in a good way) and vintage is never passé. What’s your favorite?

See ya next time!
