Welcome to Part 2 of the 2024 Interior Design Trends. If you missed Part 1 you can catch it here. I intentionally split the two blog posts into a more Neutral Palette in Part 1 and Part 2 is more about colorful and over the top trends. So, there’s something for everyone. But like I always say, take these trends with a grain of salt and do you boo. Do what makes you feel good about your home and surroundings.
Blues
No less than seven companies chose some type of blue for their Color of the Year in 2024. See my blog post about the 2024 Colors of the Year. Blue kitchens are trending as well as every other room in the house.
Kitchens
The blue in this kitchen reads almost as a gray, but it’s tone acts like a neutral in this classic kitchen.
This bright blue is so refreshing in this kitchen, especially with the window and trim being painted in the same color.
I love everything about this kitchen from the ceiling painted in the same blue as the cabinets down to the blue toned marble.
Bedrooms
This is Benjamin Moore’s 2024 Color of the Year, Blue Nova. It’s the right mix of blue-gray and the paneling behind the bed just gives it a little something.
My girl Kelly Wearstler never fails to amaze me in how she mixes styles and in this blue room, the mixing of blue tones makes it super chic.
Blue and brown are always a beautiful combinations whether it’s fashion or this beautiful bedroom.
Dining Rooms
This dynamic dining room has blue grasscloth on the walls, wallpaper on the ceiling, big accessories and touches of gold. What’s not to love?
This oversized art in this colorful dining room completely makes the room. Go all out and see the magic happen.
Living Rooms
Blue can be really soothing if you use it multiple times and in multiple shades. This “drawing room” as I like to call it, is so sophisticated.
This sitting room is just special. The large scale Frida Kahlo print caught my eye immediately and the color drenching of the walls and trim in blue lends it a certain sophistication.
Ice blue with brass is an unusual combination but it works on so many levels.
Other Rooms
This mudroom is timeless with its blue wainscoting, door and trim. The simple striped wall in in keeping with this classic look.
Look at that sky through the skylight! It perfectly matches this beautiful bathroom. The mixture of the shower tiles, the floor tiles and the wallpaper is just stunning.
Red is Back
I can’t believe that red is really back, but it’s in a different way. Not so in your face and more often than not, it leans more toward the wine side like merlot, pomegranate and burgundy. Apparently this is because Barbiecore wore everybody out and we needed something that would ease us away from the bubblegum shades. I know I was tired of all that pink.
Kitchens
Red/terracotta tiles in this kitchen are a perfect complement to the brass cylinders on the range hood. Brass plays so well with red and the light wood cabinets keep it modern.
This burgundy red kitchen is both casual and elegant at the same time. It’s some kind of witchery I say.
I think the key to this kitchen’s look is painting the windows and trim the same color and the fire engine red will work. And the brass doesn’t hurt either.
Living Rooms
This dark red is super hot in this corner of a living room. Again, the brass lighting and bar cart makes it so moody and elegant.
Moody and filled with tones of dark red, this living room is very sexy.
This pinky red is a fun color for the living room and the pop of greenery is a complementary tone. The gray rug grounds the room and keeps the scheme from looking too childish.
Bathrooms
I never thought of red tiles or even a red vanity in the bathroom until I saw this one. The black and white floor tile gives it a little edge.
Terrazzo and mid-century is here to stay and it perfectly goes with this red bathroom.
Just a Touch
If you want to just highlight an area, think about red like in this bar nook. I think the tomato red really pops and I’m a fan of painting wood paneling.
If you add just one pop of color to a room, why not try a dark red velvet sofa. This dark room really makes the sofa pop.
A deep merlot red color outlines this bar perfectly. I like how the stairs and the spindles of the railing are drenched in this color too.
Over the Top Wallcoverings
Wallpaper will still be trending even harder in 2024. Everybody’s on board now and it’s not just for accent walls anymore. It extends to all 4 walls and even the ceilings. If you don’t want to commit to a Maximalist style in any of the common rooms, just add a fun wallpaper to a powder room, a nook or even on one wall of a kitchen.
Powder Rooms
It’s fun to make the powder room a totally different vibe in your house. The dramatic wallpaper in this powder room envelops you with the paper on the ceiling too.
For this little pocket size powder room, they went all out with this bold wallpaper.
Tribal wallpaper is still in but this one is a little abstract and reminds me of those Rorschach tests, doesn’t it. Very dramatic even in neutral tones.
Wallpaper can even be used in the kitchen although I would recommend using a vinyl paper that can be wiped off easily. Also, the marble on the back wall of the range breaks up the wallpaper as well as being a very practical idea.
I think if I had this kitchen I would smile everyday, wouldn’t you?
Bedrooms
I’ve always loved these black and white murals that don’t have that much contrast. There’s almost a dreamy quality to them, which is appropriate for a bedroom.
Kelly Wearstler never disappoints and this bedroom, with the mix of patterns and colors is clicking on all cylinders.
Isn’t this Mona Lisa mural fun? I had to include this to show that you can literally make anything into a mural.
Living Rooms
This European landscape scene is like having a storybook on your wall. I could look at this country scene all day long looking for details.
The wallpaper has an 80’s vibe, but the gray grounds it and keeps it chic.
So let me know what you think about the trends for 2024 and whether you’re in or you’re out. I think the only new thing is the red, which can be a bit polarizing. But blues will always be in style and wallpaper has been trending for a couple of years. It’s just getting wilder and wilder and even being applied to ceilings.
I will be coming out with a blog post about the Design Styles that are in for 2024 so please stay tuned for that.
See ya next time.
