I am not ashamed to say that I will dumpster dive or pick up stuff off the side of the road. Usually I find things when I’m walking my dog and I come back with my car to pick it up. Now, there’s really no big dumpsters in my neighborhood so it’s usually stuff on the road or even in the woods, but I have in the past seen something sticking out of a dumpster and gone in on it.
The thrill of finding something and thinking “I could do something with that” is exciting and I’ve compiled a list of just some of my finds that I will be fixing up and sharing with you. This will be a series that I post about as I finish them and will update with more finds.
This chair was at the end of somebody’s driveway as I was out one day. I totally forgot to take a picture of it so I took one as soon as I brought it home. It is really stained and the cushion is lopsided. Not sure what I’ll do with it yet, but the shape and material is really boring, so I think I will put a really great fabric on it that will stand out.
This brought back so many memories as I had a papasan chair back in the day. This is the stool that would go with it, but the straps that are holding the bamboo together are falling off and one whole side has come apart. I think I could replace the straps with maybe leather straps and make a really great seat for it.
It was pouring rain one day and I saw this on the side of the road. I was so concerned with staying out of the rain that I didn’t take a picture of it until I got home. It was waterlogged so it’s been sitting and drying out for months. Not sure what I’ll do with it, but the bones are good, so we’ll see.
This little chair is just cool and I love the blue, but it’s in bad shape. I either want to cover the whole seat with quilted padding or use strips of magazines and modge podge the hell out of it. If If I use the modge podge it would have to have several layers of poly on it, so there’s that Hmmm.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. WTH??? But bear with me. I think this file cabinet can be made into something cute. I think there was a top made out of pressed board on it, but it sat out in the rain and just disintegrated.
This was such a find as I think the only reason they got rid of it was because of some cat scratches on one side. The rest of the chair is in great condition, so I think I can just reupholster it in a really cool fabric.
So these are my items that I will be attempting to give a makeover to over the next few weeks. I will blog about each one showing my process and the materials that I’ve used. Stay tuned to see what happens with each.
