I call things that “Give Me Life” items that make me stop in my tracks, catch the vapors and make my heart skip a beat. Most of these are aspirational but also give me inspiration. I might actually turn this into a series because I have a whole Pinterest board called “Giving Me Life”. Some require you to sell a kidney to afford it, but it’s not about wanting to buy them although some are really affordable.
Seeing beautiful things actually makes me more creative in my business because it forces me to look at things in a different way much like going to a Showhouse or a Model Home. I hope you’re inspired by these like I am.
Interiors
I’m starting off with Interior Design pieces because that’s usually what catches my eyes on Pinterest and the internet. When I see something I’ve never seen or something I’ve seen but done in a different way, I stop scrolling and get excited. It gets my creative juices going and I think of all the ways it could be used in a design. Here are just a few items I’ve seen over the last few months so sit back and enjoy.
I love brass and I love accent chairs so this chair hits all the marks for me. Imagine this in a Mid-Century Modern or Modern Organic living room. It would even be cool in a Man Cave or Den. Just spectacular.
Curvy furniture is still on trend but I was getting tired of the amoeba shaped sofas all over the place, weren’t you? But this sofa not only is in a fresh mint green color, but it’s unique in its curvy details. I especially love the pockets underneath the seat where you could put magazines, books, remotes, etc…
When I first saw this table I thought of an elevated ping pong table, but it’s actually a dining table with a tabletop tile pattern. It comes in gloss and matte and you can customize it in any colors you’d like.
These glass and acrylic tubs have been everywhere from Italian design studios to Home Depot and even Wayfair. This one, from Tendens Studio, is special because of its oval shape and indented bottom. I would love to soak in this, wouldn’t you?
Hand blown glass will always have a place in my heart since I’ve visited Venice and went to a glass blowing demonstration. The artistry of the glass artists will always amaze me and this multi-bulb light is banging.
As a lover of the old school beaded curtain, this metal one with a cutout stopped me dead in my tracks. So unique, so mysterious, I can think of a number of ways to use one of these. Love, love, love.
This chair definitely made my heart skip a beat. Just stunning! I literally have no words.
Fashion
Fashion is subjective and very personal, so what I catch my breath on might not be for you. I hope you can see the beauty in these and want to explore your personal style.
Alberta Ferretti’s Fall/Winter 2024 had a section of her collection with this tie dyed chiffon fabric in different colors in dresses, a kaftan and a pant suit. This was a lovely juxtaposition against the winter coats and boots. This green was obviously my favorite. If you know me, you know green is my favorite color.
Okay, I’m going to have to pull the trigger on these. They are so dope and I’m into sneakers right now, paired with everything like dresses, shorts, suits, etc…
Silver has been on trend ever since the Renaissance tour and it’s still going strong. Ballet flats are also trending and this pair takes it up a notch with the ties around the ankle.
This hat is everything and the photo is fire. You would certainly make a statement on any tropical island with this hat.
It’s the Little Things
This might be my favorite category because it is the little things that can make a big impact and difference. I love when designers take an ordinary item and add “design” to it. They can reimagine it into something so beautiful and why not? Shouldn’t our everyday items be beautiful? I think so. It’s similar to people saying to use your good china and don’t wait for a special occasion.
This garden hose is a perfect example of taking something mundane and turning it into a work of art. Especially with the color against the color of the house. Just beautiful.
Perfumes with cement tops, Need I say more. It certainly turns these bottles into little works of arts.
Wouldn’t you just love to store your knives in this custom live edge knife holder?
These red glasses by the famed Swedish Orrefors glassworks company are so fabulous. I immediately imagined myself with a mimosa at Sunday brunch.
Loewe is a brand that’s above my pay grade, but these sunglasses are everything. I’m a sunglasses girl so these are calling my name.
I hope you enjoyed all of these beauties and maybe want to curate your own list of things that “give you life” and inspire you. If you have some items that you’ve pinned, saved or taken a picture of, please share. I love seeing new and unique things and would love to see yours. Link them in the comments below and I’ll see ya next time.
